SEANOL Development History
The SEANOL story goes back to a union of three Ph.D’s who were working on drug developments in cardiovascular and Alzheimer’s diseases at the University of Iowa in the late 1980's. By the beginning of the 1990’s, they started to doubt the conventional method of drug development which focuses only on strong inhibition of specific biochemical processes, leading often to more harm than benefit. This was especially true of chronic degenerative diseases such as CAD, CVD, DM, arthritis, Alzheimer’s, allergies, cancers, etc..
One of the researchers happened to have an interest in the physiological actions of second metabolites of land and sea plants. After 5 years of his research focused primarily on compounds from seaweeds, he announced his success in isolation of several new antioxidant compounds from edible seaweeds. The three researchers confirmed the seaweed extracts’ great potential as a superior natural agent with absolute safety and long-term efficacy in age-related chronic degenerative diseases.
They subsequently raised a total of $30 million in Korean government and private funding from 1999 through 2004 to perform further R&D. During this period, the researchers performed countless in vitro, in vivo and clinical trials in an attempt to determine for which indications the polyphenols worked most effectively. In that phase, they discovered that SEANOL had many superior properties beneficial to human vascular problems (cardio-, cerebro-, and penile), obesity, arthritis, allergies and dementia.
Their work is covered by many patents, both issued and pending.
